The New Guinea Singing Dog Breed Standard

The following is the NGSD breed standard. It is basesd on the original UKC standard.

General Appearance

The New Guinea singing dog is a small to medium sized dog with a fox-like appearance. They have a wedge shaped head, pricked ears, and obliquely-set triangular eyes. Their coat is plush and they have a brushy tail.

The NGSD is extremely agile and graceful.

This breed is presented in a completely natural condition with no trimming, not even the whiskers.

Characteristics

The breed’s most unique characteristic is their dramatic ability to vary the pitch of their howl. They do not bark repetitively but have a complex vocal behavior including yelps, whines, and single-note howls.

NGSDs are active, lively, and alert. They constantly explore their environment using all five senses.
